eCitizen is the Kenyan government's portal for online services. Job seekers use it to apply for a Certificate of Good Conduct, and many other services, from passports to business registration, are available there. One account gives you access to all of them.
Who can register
Kenyan citizens and foreign residents aged 18 and over, with a national ID number or alien card number.
Step by step: creating your account
- Go to the official eCitizen website and choose Register (or Create account).
- Choose the type of account you want to create, for example Kenyan citizen.
- Enter your ID number, first name and year of birth. Your details are checked against the national registration records.
- Enter your phone number and email address, and add a profile photo if asked.
- Create a strong password and confirm it.
- Verify your account with the one-time code (OTP) sent to your phone or email.
Signing in and using services
When you sign in, choose whether to receive your one-time code by phone or email, then enter it. From your dashboard, pick the ministry, department or agency you need (for example the Directorate of Criminal Investigations for a police clearance certificate), fill in the application and pay any fee shown using the payment options on eCitizen.
Keep your account safe
- Use a strong password that you do not use anywhere else.
- Never share your one-time codes with anyone, including people claiming to be from eCitizen.
- Only type the official eCitizen address yourself; do not use links sent by WhatsApp or SMS.
- Pay only through the eCitizen payment page, never to individuals.
Trouble registering?
If your details are rejected, check that you entered your ID number and names exactly as on your ID. If you no longer have access to the phone number or email on your account, use the account recovery options or contact eCitizen support.
