How to get a KRA Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC)
Apply online on iTax in a few minutes, as long as your tax returns are filed and you have no unpaid tax. It is free and valid for 12 months.
A Tax Compliance Certificate (TCC) shows that you have filed your tax returns and have no outstanding tax. Government jobs, state corporations and many private employers ask for a current one.
Before you start
- Your KRA PIN and iTax password.
- All your tax returns filed. If you have no income, you still need to file a nil return each year.
- No unpaid tax on your account.
Steps
- Log in to iTax with your KRA PIN and password.
- Open the Certificates menu and choose Apply for Tax Compliance Certificate.
- Fill in the reason for the application and submit.
- If everything is in order, the certificate is issued and sent to your email, and you can download it from iTax.
Good to know
- A TCC is free and valid for 12 months. Check the expiry date before each application.
- If iTax refuses your application, it is usually because of a missing return or unpaid tax. Fix that first, then apply again.
Processes and fees change from time to time. Always follow the instructions on the official website, and never pay anyone who offers to "speed up" a clearance for you.
