How to get a Certificate of Good Conduct (Police Clearance)
Apply on eCitizen, then have your fingerprints taken at a DCI office or Huduma Centre. It takes a few weeks, so start as soon as you see a job that needs it.
The Certificate of Good Conduct, also called a Police Clearance Certificate, is issued by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI). It confirms your criminal record status and is one of the most requested documents for government and security-sensitive jobs.
Steps
- Log in to eCitizen and open the Directorate of Criminal Investigations service.
- Apply for a Police Clearance Certificate and pay the fee shown on eCitizen.
- Print the invoice and the fingerprint form (Form C24).
- Take them, with your original National ID and a copy, to a DCI office or a Huduma Centre that takes fingerprints.
- When it is ready, download the certificate from your eCitizen account.
Good to know
- This is the slowest clearance to get. Start early; deadlines won't wait for it.
- Employers usually want a recent certificate, often issued within the last 6 to 12 months. Check the advert.
Processes and fees change from time to time. Always follow the instructions on the official website, and never pay anyone who offers to "speed up" a clearance for you.
