How to get a CRB clearance certificate
Apply online to any licensed Credit Reference Bureau (Metropol, TransUnion or Creditinfo). If you have a defaulted loan, clear it first.
A Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) clearance certificate shows your credit history, including whether you have defaulted on loans. It is part of integrity checks for many public jobs.
Where to get it
Kenya has three licensed credit reference bureaus. Any of them can issue the certificate:
- Metropol CRB
- TransUnion Kenya
- Creditinfo Kenya
Steps
- Go to the bureau's official website and choose the personal clearance certificate option.
- Fill in your details and pay the fee shown.
- If you have no negative listing, the certificate is issued and emailed to you.
Good to know
- If you are listed for a defaulted loan (including mobile loans), pay or settle it first. The lender then updates the bureau, and you can apply.
- Only use the bureaus' official websites. Anyone offering to "clear your CRB name" for a fee is running a scam.
Processes and fees change from time to time. Always follow the instructions on the official website, and never pay anyone who offers to "speed up" a clearance for you.
