Project Overview

Accordemy® is seeking an experienced GIS trainer and consultant to deliver a two-day, in-person professional development program titled "The Use of GIS in Humanitarian Projects" in Madrid, Spain.

The program aims to strengthen participants' ability to apply Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in humanitarian operations, project planning, land and asset management, risk assessment, and evidence-based decision-making.

The training should emphasize practical applications, real-world scenarios, and the effective use of geospatial information to support humanitarian project implementation and management.

Proposed Training Topics

The program is expected to cover:

  1. GIS Applications in Humanitarian Projects — GIS for humanitarian planning, coordination, needs assessment, and operational management.
  2. Geospatial Data Collection and Management — Spatial datasets, data integration, mapping layers, and geographic information management.
  3. Spatial Analysis and Risk Assessment — Identifying vulnerable areas, assessing geographic risks, and supporting project prioritization.
  4. Land and Asset Mapping — Mapping land parcels, infrastructure, resources, and project-affected locations.
  5. GIS for Evidence-Based Decision-Making — Spatial suitability assessment, comparison of alternatives, and management decision support.
  6. GIS Visualization and Reporting — Thematic maps, dashboards, analytical outputs, and communicating geographic findings to stakeholders.
  7. AI Integration with GIS — Practical applications of artificial intelligence, automation, and emerging geospatial technologies.
  8. GIS Data Security and Stakeholder Information Management — Data privacy, access control, secure sharing, and responsible management of sensitive geographic information.
  9. Practical GIS Exercises — Hands-on demonstrations and case studies relevant to humanitarian and development projects.

The final training outline will be agreed upon with the selected consultant, considering their technical expertise and recommendations.

Consultant Qualifications

Candidates should demonstrate:

  • Strong professional experience in Geographic Information Systems and spatial analysis.
  • Proficiency in ArcGIS and proven experience teaching or delivering professional training using ArcGIS.
  • Experience designing and delivering instructor-led GIS training programs.
  • Ability to explain technical GIS concepts clearly to professionals and managers.

  • Familiarity with AI-assisted geospatial analysis and GIS data management practices.
  • Excellent English communication and presentation skills.
  • Availability to deliver the training in person in Madrid on the specified dates.

Experience working with humanitarian organizations, development agencies, NGOs, or international institutions would be an advantage.

  • A finalized two-day training outline.
  • Instructor-led delivery with practical demonstrations.
  • Relevant training presentations, exercises, and example datasets.
  • Hands-on activities that allow participants to apply the concepts.
  • Supporting technical reference materials, where appropriate./
